The Burguret School
The Burguret Primary school is situated in the shadow of Mt. Kenya on the edge of the Great Rift Valley. This region receives very little rainfall each year making farming difficult. Most of the students’ parents work the land growing beans, maize, squash and other vegetables.
School is compulsory in Kenya but school funds are very limited and the students lack many necessities.

School Motto: “Better your best to lead”
KSP and Burguret School Goals
The Kenyan School Project worked with the Burguret Primary school for a number of years. Together, with the school management committee, we accomplished the following:
- Construction of a School Kitchen and establishment of a meal program (2012)
- Purchase of a Jiko cook stove (2012)
- Funding for gutters, four water tanks and construction of a water trough for washing and gathering water (2013)
- Donation of books for the School library (2013)
- Purchase of language and culturally appropriate text books for the school classrooms. (2015)
- Construction of two kindergarten classrooms (2017)
These accomplishments have helped the school meet the goals set by the school management committee, parents and teachers in 2009:
- Eradication of illiteracy in the community by providing
quality education
- To have an educated and morally upright community through exemplary teaching and child mentoring
- To have a school with most of the necessary facilities including:
- adequate classroom space and furniture
- a school kitchen and lunch program
- improved water storage capacity
- Installation of electricity and computers to cope with
information technology
